In celebration of Native American Heritage Month, the Freedom Forum spotlights its 30 years of training, mentoring and promoting Native American students and journalists.
This program is the latest in a series marking the 30th anniversary of the Freedom Forum, which was founded on July 4, 1991.
Through several initiatives including the American Indian Journalism Institute, the Native American Journalism Career Conference and the Crazy Horse Journalism Workshop, the Freedom Forum has been on the forefront of increasing representation of Native American journalists.
Three journalists who have participated in Freedom Forum programs will share how the initiatives impacted them and talk about their work today.
Speakers include:
- Katie Oyan, West desk editor, Associated Press
- Shondiin Silversmith, indigenous affairs reporter, The Arizona Mirror
- Mark Trahant, editor, Indian Country Today
