Alex Morey
First Amendment Specialist
Alex Morey is Freedom Forum’s First Amendment specialist. Her work focuses on deepening public understanding of how this core constitutional protection shows up in our courtrooms and communities — and how the democratic ideals it represents impact and enrich our everyday lives.
Morey spent nearly a decade at the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression, a nonpartisan, free speech advocacy nonprofit. As vice president of campus advocacy, she led FIRE’s flagship program promoting and defending expressive rights for college students and faculty. She regularly provided FIRE’s commentary on campus free expression issues in major media outlets including The New York Times, the BBC, CNN, NPR, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Politico and C-SPAN.
Morey is a member of the First Amendment Lawyers Association and is licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia, New York and her current home state of Wisconsin. Morey began her public service career as a Peace Corps volunteer in Madagascar, where she taught English in underserved schools, and partnered with area journalists on free press initiatives through the U.S. Embassy’s Foreign Press Center.
