First Five Now: ‘The Reunited States’

Award-winning filmmaker Ben Rekhi talks about his new documentary, “The Reunited States,” which follows four everyday heroes on the difficult journey of bridging our political divides.

Based on the book by Mark Gerzon, “The Reunited States” provides a portrait of those who have dedicated their lives to depolarization and are providing a framework for the rest of the nation to do the same.

“First Five Now” will also feature an interview with David and Erin Leaverton, who set off on an RV journey across America with their three children to find out what unites us and discover instead what is causing the divisions.

This program will premiere Feb. 18 at 2 p.m. Eastern on our YouTube channel.

Also featured in the film are:

  • Susan Bro, the mother of Heather Heyer, who was killed at the 2017 Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Va.;
  • Greg Orman, who ran as an independent in the 2018 Kansas gubernatorial race;
