Rise Up: The Hollywood Effect & the LGBTQ Community
As societal shifts in the 1960s and '70s challenged conservative attitudes, portrayals of gay lives in film and television grew more complex and sympathetic.
In "The Hollywood Effect," actors Jesse Tyler Ferguson, George Takei and Cynthia Nixon discuss how portrayals of LGBTQ Americans shifted in television and films, opening the door to equal rights.
The discussion complements “Rise Up: Stonewall and the LGBTQ Rights Movement,” a nationally travelling exhibit that explores the modern gay rights movement in the United States.
