Women’s Leadership on the Political Stage: Valerie Jarrett In Conversation with Samantha Barry (CANCELLED)
March 12 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm EDT
Unfortunately, with the evolving nature of the COVID-19 virus, the March 12 program has been cancelled.
We hope to reschedule our event on women in politics at a date later this year.
Glamour magazine Editor-in-Chief Samantha Barry and Valerie Jarrett, board chair of When We All Vote, a non-partisan, non-profit that brings together citizens, institutions, brands and organizations to increase participation in every election, discuss women’s leadership on the political stage.
Jarrett is a former senior adviser to President Barack Obama, senior adviser to the Obama Foundation and senior distinguished fellow at the University of Chicago Law School. She was the longest-serving senior adviser to President Obama, oversaw the Offices of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs and chaired the White House Council on Women and Girls.
The program will coincide with the unveiling of a new suffrage-themed suite at the Hamilton Hotel in Washington, D.C., and exhibits at Reagan National and Dulles International airport titled, “First Amendment Freedoms: Women Win the Vote.”
Barry is serving as the guest curator for the dedicated suite, which celebrates the centennial with images of historic newspapers, photographs, and stories of changemakers from past and present, including suffragists Sojourner Truth, Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Alice Paul as well as Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Barry has been Glamour’s editor-in-chief since 2018 and oversees content, development and consumer experiences across the brand’s digital, social, video and print verticals. She serves on the boards of the SPLC: Student Press Law Center, Room to Read, a nonprofit supporting girls’ education, and is a Concern Worldwide ambassador. Prior to joining Glamour, Barry was the executive producer for social and emerging media at CNN Worldwide.
The program will also mark the 100th anniversary of the of the passage of the 19th Amendment, which guaranteed women nationwide the constitutional right to vote.
A V.I.P. open house and tour of the Freedom Forum’s new office space at 300 New Jersey Ave., N.W., will take place prior to the program.
