Newseum to reopen Tuesday, Oct. 10

ARLINGTON, Va. The Newseum announced today that it will reopen
on Tuesday, Oct. 10. The Newseum closed on Sunday, Oct. 1, due to a water main
break and subsequent flooding of the first and second floors of the Newseum. No
one was injured in the incident, and no major artifacts were damaged.
"We look forward to reopening our doors next Tuesday," said Newseum
Executive Director Joe Urschel.
The "Cartoons and Campaigns" activities scheduled for Saturday, Oct.
7, and the "Inside Media" program with National Public Radio correspondent Neal
Conan scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 8, have been cancelled.
Repairs to the Newseum's "Interactive Newsroom" the site of
the incident are underway, and the museum expects to complete an
initial estimate of the cost of the repairs by the end of the week.
Freedom Park which includes international icons of freedom
including the largest display of original Berlin Wall pieces outside of Germany
and the Freedom Forum Journalists Memorial remains open to the public
from dawn to dusk each day. The Newseum's Education Center also is open for
previously scheduled classroom activities.
