Freedom Forum appoints Kathryn Kennedy to new position

ARLINGTON, Va. The Freedom Forum has appointed Kathryn (Kate)
Kennedy to the new position of director/partnerships and initiatives, effective
Jan. 1, 2001.
Kennedy is a veteran newspaper recruiter and editor, serving
previously as manager/news staff recruiting for Gannett Co. She earlier held
editing assignments at three Gannett newspapers: The CincinnatiEnquirer, the News-Press in Fort Myers, Fla., and the
Argus Leader in Sioux Falls, S.D.
She also has been actively involved with the Associated Press Managing Editors,
including chairing its management committee for the past three years.
"Kate Kennedy's career credentials, her contacts in the newspaper
industry and her experiences as a recruiter and editor make her an excellent
addition to The Freedom Forum family," said Charles L. Overby, Freedom Forum chairman and
chief executive officer. "She will be instrumental in helping expand our
partnerships with newspapers."
Kennedy will report to Mary Kay Blake, senior vice
president/partnerships and initiatives, and her work initially will focus on
The Freedom Forum's efforts to help recruit and place people of color in
newspaper newsrooms. A native of Minnesota, Kennedy holds a degree in
journalism and sociology from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
"Kate's skills as a project manager will help us advance our
partnerships and priorities and achieve even greater results," said Blake.
