Metro fire, police get $4.4M for equipment

The Metro Council unanimously approved $4.4 million Tuesday for the Davidson County Fire Department and Metro Police Department to buy new equipment, replace old equipment and make air conditioning repairs.
County Fire Chief Stephen Halford's shopping list consisted of more than 2,600 items ranging from $200 to $550,000, according to council documents.
Among new items: four TV/DVD combos at $1,000 each, children's fire hats at $7,500 and one TV/VCR/DVD combo at $400.
Members of the council unanimously passed the resolution, giving the county fire department the amount they requested.
The police department will have nearly $1 million to replace used equipment, buy new equipment and make building repairs.
According Councilman Don Jones, the repairs are needed for the police department's heating and air conditioning units.
