As an ASNE/APME Fellow, I have reported to the Freedom Forum every six months about my work. For the report marking my 18-month anniversary at the Lebanon (Pa.) Daily News, I was asked what advice I had for Fellows just entering the program. I replied with an acrostic poem, using the word "Fellows" as my subject.
| F |
Find your voice |
| E |
Express yourself; diversity's important so share your opinions
and experiences |
| L |
Life happens; don't carry the negative that happens today
into tomorrow |
| L |
Love what you do and enjoy every day because this is a once-in-a-lifetime
experience |
| O |
Open your eyes (and heart) to discover new sides to a story |
| W |
Wear a smile every day; it's infectious |
| S |
Soak up all the knowledge and advice you can from editors
and co-workers |
While I wrote this advice for Fellows, I think we all can apply some aspect of it to our work and our lives.
