Nominations invited for Journalism Teachers of the Year Award
VERMILLION, S.D. Nominations are now being accepted for the Freedom Forum Journalism Teachers of the Year Award for 2002. The Freedom Forum will provide three $10,000 awards to honor journalism professors for classroom teaching excellence at bachelor’s degree-granting colleges and universities.
The awards recognize classroom teaching and leadership in the core areas of print and broadcast journalism instruction: reporting, editing, journalism history, media law or ethics. The awards are designed to recognize, reinforce and reward outstanding journalism teachers who have demonstrated journalism teaching excellence on their own campuses and beyond.
The teaching awards will be presented at a Freedom Forum Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, Aug. 7, at the annual Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication convention in Miami Beach, Fla.
Nominations: Journalism and mass communication educators, professionals, students and alumni may submit nominations. Nomination letters of no more than four pages should include information regarding the nominee's teaching excellence, impact on students and efforts to improve instruction in the core areas of journalism instruction. A recent copy of the nominee's vita should accompany the nomination. Nomination letters will be reviewed by a judging committee and additional information will be requested on those chosen as finalists.
Deadline: Nomination letters should be received by the Freedom Forum no later than Monday, April 15.
