Nominating a Chips Quinn Scholar

Scholars are accepted into the program by nomination from journalism faculty and campus media advisers, editors of newspapers or leaders of minority journalism associations. They also can apply directly, with letters of endorsement from editors or educators. College juniors, seniors or graduates with majors or career goals in journalism are eligible.
Nominees must complete an application form and submit transcripts, work samples, letters of recommendation, a photograph and an essay stating why they believe they should be a Chips Quinn Scholar.
All nominees must have a valid driver's license and a car during the time of their internship.

Program timetable
Spring program
Nomination deadline is Oct. 15. Orientation will be in mid-January, followed by a 10- to 12-week internship.
Summer program
Nomination deadline is Oct. 15. Placement notifications begin as early as mid-December and continue through the end of April. Orientation will be in May, followed by a 10- to 12-week internship.
