ARLINGTON, Va. — Charles L. Overby, chairman and chief executive officer of The Freedom Forum, today announced that Shelby Coffey, former news chief at CNNfn, will become a fellow of the Freedom Forum. As a fellow, Coffey will study and write about media and First Amendment issues.

"Shelby brings a virtually unparalleled background of leadership in print, broadcast and new media to this role," said Overby.

Coffey was executive vice president at ABC News in New York City before he joined CNN in 1999. Prior to that, he served as editor of the Los Angeles Times. Earlier he held editorial positions with the Dallas Times Herald, U.S. News & World Report, and The Washington Post.
